Behind the career of every driver Formula 1Behind them are parents who have had to make sacrifices to allow their children to live their dream. So when their son becomes world champion, his father can hardly hide his emotion. Although more reserved than his wife, whose tears flowed from the moment he crossed the finish line to the podium, Adam Norris was moved this Sunday, when Lando was crowned champion after 58 tense laps in Abu Dhabi.

“I am very happy for him,” he confided to the Formula 1 microphone. There's a lot of relief; it's been a long season. It's a long, difficult journey; there's a lot of pain involved, many tough days, sacrifices… But we made it, world champions, that's not bad, is it?

For him, it was difficult to watch the race with Landon Norris's other relatives in the pit box. McLaren : “For the first time this year, I locked myself in a room with my headphones on and just watched in silence, because there’s nothing you can do about it! When I listen to the commentators at home I get very excited, so I wanted to avoid that! If he’d had a puncture, a mechanical failure, it would all have been over…”

A son who is a Formula 1 world champion

He continued with a message of thanks to McLaren, who have supported Lando Norris since his Formula 1 debut, at the dawn of the 2019 season: "We have a good team, but without the car we wouldn't have made it, I'm really very happy."

After the stress endured throughout the season, and especially during the nail-biting final in Abu Dhabi, it's time to celebrate. Adam Norris, however, believes he'll need time to fully grasp the magnitude of his son's achievement. This provides an opportunity to reflect on the family moments shared during the long journey that has been the career of the 2025 world champion.

"I think it will take some time to realize," he adds again. I loved this trip with him, and all the places we visited, places no tourist would ever venture to, little hidden gems! I enjoyed every moment of this trip, but it was difficult. Some parents give up because they don't want to go through that, but I was there, and so was the team, to keep going.

And to conclude with pride: "No one can ever take that away from him, he's a world champion, it's a great day."

I also congratulate the parents very much for bringing their son to this first title...no surprise, the mother is Belgian :):):)

Beyond various considerations (wealth, support, passion...), what parents wouldn't be happy to see their offspring realize a dream?
