The world of Formula 1 Is he right to be excited about the signing of Adrian Newey at Aston Martin in 2025? Of course, the brilliant English engineer is certainly one of the best – if not the best – engineers in Formula 1 history, having won no less than 12 world titles in the Constructors' standings with Williams, McLaren et Red Bull, and having designed the most dominant single-seaters of their time (Red Bull RB19, Williams FW15, etc.).

However, will the Briton have a real impact on the development of Aston Martin? Lawrence Stroll does not skimp on the means to grow its team, with significant recruitments (Andy Cowell and Enrico Cardile in particular) as well as the expansion and modernization of the Silverstone factory. On March 1, 2025, Adrian Newey will find himself (almost) at the top of this pyramid as Managing Technical Partner and will have to, in less than a year, lead the 2026 project with the introduction of the new technical regulations.

While there is no doubt about his magic pencil stroke, one can nevertheless question his real impact within a team under construction with many strong personalities in the organization chart. One can also look at factors independent of Adrian Newey: the quality of the drivers for example, Fernando Alonso and Lance Stroll, and their feedback to the engineers. Also the quality of the Honda engine which, although it has proven itself in recent years, will start on a completely new basis like the other engine manufacturers on the grid.

In short, an Adrian Newey alone cannot lead a team to the title, but only an Adrian Newey can make a team shine and make it irresistible. And you, what do you think?

If Adrian Newey can indeed lead Aston Martin to the titles, I highly doubt that it will be with the current duo with a Fernand who seems to be getting blunt, surely but gently - in any case, much less vindictive than before on the radio or in his statements that have become very politically correct towards his employer - and the only permanent contract on the grid that we can hardly imagine as a GP winner! On the other hand, for a Verstappen who would like, after a complicated end to 2024 and perhaps an even more complicated 2025 season, to find Newey and a PowerUnit branded Honda (rather than an uncertain PU Red Bull Ford), Stroll Senior will certainly be willing to take out his checkbook once again...
