Will history repeat itself a third time for Kevin Magnussen ? The Dane could once again find himself on the sidelines Formula 1 next year. Already downgraded by McLaren after his first season in 2014, then ousted by Haas at the end of 2020 before returning triumphantly in 2022, the 31-year-old driver is more than ever in the hot seat within the American team.

Beaten on every level by Nico Hulkenberg (22 points for the German against 5 for the Dane), Kevin Magnussen is weakened by the arrival of Ollie Bearman in 2025. Barring a huge surprise, the expected formalization of Esteban Ocon for next season should seal the fate of Kevin Magnussen at Haas… and in Formula 1?

According to Günther Steiner, former Team Principal of the American team, the question deserves to be asked regarding K-Mag. “I like Kevin… but what he's doing lately against Hülkenberg isn't impressive, to say the least, said the Italian during a recent promotional event, Reuters reports. We have to be open about this: either Hülkenberg is really better than we thought, or Kevin is, at the moment, not where he needs to be to have a place in F1. »

Beyond Kevin Magnussen, Günther Steiner included all the experienced drivers whose merit of remaining in Formula 1 can be called into question with their recent performances. “There comes a time when you have to realize. There are quite a few [who are in this situation]: Checo (Pérez), Daniel (Ricciardo), Kevin, (Valtteri) Bottas [even though] it's difficult to talk about Bottas because the car is not really good. But there are a lot of them and the people who give them a seat have to think about it: is it best for the team? »

Magnussen returning to the United States after F1?

So, what future for Kevin Magnussen if it has to be written outside of Formula 1? The Dane says he has been exploring options outside the premier category for 2025 for some time now. We know he is fond ofEndurance, he who should have driven for Peugeot en WEC in 2022, before being recalled by Haas. In 2021, he participated in the full season in IMSA with Cadillac and Chip Ganassi Racing, but also with 24H of Le Mans in LM P2 with his father, Jan.

Kevin Magnussen could also move towardsIndyCar, a discipline he tried in 2021 by participating in the Road America round with Arrow McLaren. There is no doubt that the Dane's experience will be coveted by any team in the United States and, at only 31 years old, K-Mag still has some talent! We will certainly know more about his plans when the second seat at Haas is made official.
