Madrid's arrival on the calendar of the Formula 1 This does not spell the end for Barcelona. Formula 1 confirmed on Monday, February 16, 2026, the extension of the Catalan circuit until 2032. The championship also announced that what will now be called the Barcelona-Catalunya Grand Prix will alternate with the Belgian Grand Prix.

The distribution will be as follows from 2027: Spa-Francorchamps in 2027, 2029 and 2031, Barcelona in 2028, 2030 and 2032.

« We welcome the renewal of the Formula 1 Grand Prix in Catalonia, at least until 2032. declares Pol Gibert, CEO of Circuits de Catalunya SL and Secretary General of the Department of Enterprises and Employment. We would like to express our gratitude to Formula 1 for the trust they have placed in the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya and the region over all these years. This renewal is the result of a strong relationship and close collaboration, and represents a very important step in consolidating Catalonia's place among the key events on the international calendar. »

« Formula 1 generates an economic impact of more than 300 million euros per edition, but above all it is a strategic event which helps to project the image of Catalonia throughout the world as a country capable of hosting high-level sporting competitions. »

With the Madring starting this 2026 season, there will therefore be two Grands Prix in Spain every other year.

This alternating schedule is a very bad idea; the number of Grands Prix should be reduced to a maximum of 20. Adding four or five sprint races would, in my opinion, be a good solution. When you see the investment at Francorchamps, only to race there every two years, it's scandalous. The circuit and the atmosphere are incredible! alainkf1@pt.lu 😎Francorchamps 👍

The rotation, or rather the expected alternation in Europe to make room for new urban karting tracks, is finally materializing with Barcelona and Spa Francorchamps, two historic Formula 1 sites. Doesn't this extension of the Catalan track also respond to a slight concern about the long-term viability of the "Madring" in Madrid, which is not generating much enthusiasm except for the Smooth Operator, its ambassador?
