After Jeddah, Baku. Oliver Bearman will make his second official appearance in Formula 1. If in Saudi Arabia he had to play the role of firefighter on duty by replacing Carlos Sainz In light of EL3, the Briton will this time have the right to real preparation time, the Azerbaijan Grand Prix taking place next weekend only.

On site, the protégé of Ferrari will replace it Kevin Magnussen, who became the first driver in history to be suspended since the introduction of the points system in 2014. Quickly, Haas had to find a replacement for him and the choice logically fell on Ollie Bearman. Kevin did a very good job in Monza, writes Günther Steiner in his column for F1, praising the performance of his former protégé. When he is in a position to score points, he is very strong behind the wheel. When he has the motivation, he is a very good driver. Now, he will have some time off since he has this suspension to serve. It was likely to fall by the end of the season since he was very close to the limit.

Is he happy with this suspension? No. Was it unexpected? No. He did too many things at the beginning of the year that maybe he shouldn't have done. This time it wasn't so bad, but if you get a penalty you get points with it.

Ollie then became the obvious choice to replace him at Haas. It will be a reality check. Getting into a Ferrari is one thing. Getting into a car that doesn't fight for podiums is another. But it's a good thing for him ahead of his full-time debut with the team next year. He did a great job for Ferrari in Saudi Arabia and I'm sure he'll do the same in Baku and then next season. »

It would not be surprising to see Ollie Bearman at ease on the streets of the Azerbaijani capital. During his last visit to F2 In 2023, he had the most dominant weekend in the history of the championship with the best time in practice, qualifying, the best lap in the Sprint Race and two victories. Just that.

An obvious choice to replace KMag with a view to 2025 of course ... but what is the point of having a reserve driver like Fittipaldi for 6 years who also races in IndyCar it seems to me? This calls into question the role of the third driver (Drugovich, Pourchaire ...)
