This is information that risks casting even more doubt on the true nature of Oliver Oakes' departure fromAlpineThe Briton suddenly resigned on Tuesday, two days after a complicated Miami Grand Prix for his troops (a point scored in the sprint thanks to gasly). Oakes, who had served as Team Principal since July 2024, officially left the team for "personal reasons," which could be partly explained by the troubled situation his brother is going through.

William Oakes was arrested on Thursday, May 1, by British police in the Silverstone Park area, according to the daily. The TelegraphHe was charged with transferring criminal property and was arrested with a "significant sum of money on him." He appeared at Northampton Magistrates' Court on Saturday, May 3, and was remanded in custody, a police source confirmed to The Telegraph.

According to the British Companies Register, William Oakes, 31, was the director of Hitech GP, the team founded by his brother Oliver in 2015. He had left the management to join Alpine during last season. Hitech's management had been a source of questions in recent years following the massive investments of Russian oligarch Dmitri mazepin and sanctions imposed by the British government following Russia's invasion of Ukraine in early 2022.

Oliver Oakes' Hitech team had also applied for entry into Formula 1 in 2026, but its project ultimately did not gain the support of the FIA. Since then, the British structure continues to evolve in the promotion formulas, notably the F2, where Dino Beganovic, protégé of Ferrari, and Luke Browning, a member of the academy Williams, place Hitech in 4th place in the team ranking.

And Oliver Oakes is in Dubai, evading his country's justice system and possible extradition to the United Kingdom. An unexpected episode in the past collaboration between Hitech GP and the Mazepin clan?

Perhaps Oakes needs to quickly replace his brother at the helm of Hitech if the latter is temporarily unable to do so. And there seemed to be some disagreements with Briatore over the choice of drivers. It is still reasonable to assume that after the rejection of the HiTech GP application, Oakes intended to take over. Alpine on his own or even to buy the team, and that Briatore's ambitions thwarted his plans. In any case, the directors ofAlpine seem to have many other concerns than making the car work on the track...

Perhaps the real reason for Oliver Oakes' unexpected departure is if his brother William's arrest reveals a proven connection to Hitech GP. In that case, Brille A Tort and Oliver Oakes were right when they both claimed there was no disagreement between them. That being said, between The King of Cheaters and the brother of a potential criminal, the chemistry should have worked out without too much trouble...
