The Concord City Council in North Carolina will indeed hold a meeting in the coming days to approve or reject Cadillac's proposal to build a new factory at 4295 Defender Way. Construction of this new building should begin very quickly, with the aim of laying the first stone in the first quarter of 2025 (by the end of March), for final commissioning in early 2027. Concord is a mecca for American motorsport, as it is where most of Cadillac's teams are based. NASCAR are based. The new Cadillac plant would also be adjacent to the facilities of Hendrick Motorsports, a long-time partner of General Motors in the American stock car championship.

“Motorsport IP Acquisition […] proposes to develop a site to support the development of the Cadillac powertrain F1 », we can read in the council agenda. “This project aims to design and test a cutting-edge engine capable of meeting the rigorous performance and efficiency standards of Formula 1. With an ambitious timeline, the goal is to have the engine ready for integration into a vehicle by 2028, ensuring Cadillac’s competitive debut in Formula 1. Construction is expected to begin in the first quarter of 2025 and occupancy is expected in the first quarter of 2027.”

The American brand is therefore maintaining its initial intention, which was to participate in two Formula 1 seasons with an engine Ferrari customer (2026 and 2027), before designing and using its own engine from 2028. General Motors should allocate at least 85 million dollars (82 million euros) to the construction of this plant, which would create up to 350 highly qualified jobs: "The project would involve significant investments in new manufacturing, R&D and information technology equipment, as well as the hiring of 300 to 350 highly skilled employees in manufacturing, engineering, research and development, with average salaries of $100 to $000 per year."

The development of the F1 engine, initiated at the beginning of the year, will continue for the time being in an existing General Motors building, until the end of the construction of the new factory.

Will Cadillac really build an operational factory from scratch from 2027 to use its own F1 engine during the 2028 and 2029 seasons? Knowing that the next upheaval of the technical regulations should, according to Stefano Domenicali who is apparently well informed, occur around the 2030 season with the possible introduction of new power units that are potentially louder and "high rev", it is a little hard to believe given the cost of such an operation for Cadillac (unless in the end, it also serves other disciplines for Cadillac Racing). Certainly one of the reasons, not admitted, having led to the abandonment of the 2026 PowerUnitAlpine by Renault Group!
