Colton Herta is back in school. The former driver ofIndyCar made the bold bet of Formula 2 hoping to secure a seat in the top category. To reach the Formula 1The American is betting on Cadillac, eleventh and new team on the F1 grid, for which he is now a test driver.

In the meantime, the Californian will accumulate the necessary Super Licence points in F2 with Hitech TGR. To do so, he has to start almost entirely from scratch. It's like going back to school, going back to learning many fundamentals. he says. The way you drive each formula car, even if they look similar, is quite different. The Formula 2 car is very different. »

Colton Herta is not arriving in completely unfamiliar territory, however: he had indeed raced in Great Britain in 2015 and 2016. Formula 3 and four British drivers in particular, and in Spain in Euroformula and Spanish Formula 3. We're going back to basics: trying to learn how I should brake, how I should release the brakes and get back on the gas, managing the Pirelli tires, which are very different from our Firestones in IndyCar, explains the youngest IndyCar winner. So there are a lot of new things, but I'm excited about it. There will be a lot of new things for me next year, but there are also a lot of things I remember from my years in F3 and F4. Colton Herta has a busy schedule ahead in 2026.

Alongside his F2 season, Colton Herta plans to follow a dual program in IMSA with Cadillac to run three rounds ofEndurance (Daytona, Sebring and Road Atlanta) alongside Jordan Taylor and Louis Delétraz. A program " really exciting "For the 25-year-old pilot." The car is simply unbelievable, he exclaims. Having that naturally aspirated V10 behind me is something I've never experienced in my career; I've always had turbocharged engines. So it's a different feeling, and a magnificent sound. »

Colton Herta will be present after the F1 and F2 finale in Abu Dhabi for the post-season tests scheduled from December 10 to 12, where he will drive for Hitech TGR in preparation for his 2026 F2 season.

This is just as difficult a challenge for him as it is for Mick Schumacher, who will be making his IndyCar debut next year! It's far from a done deal for the two drivers, who might even cross paths in airport waiting areas...
