That week Formula 1 is setting up shop for the first time this season in Europe. And it's happening in Italy, more precisely in Emilia-Romagna. This will be the 32nd GP in history on the legendary Italian circuit, which returned to the calendar in 2020.
With a narrow, old-school track with limited or no run-off, Imola offers a unique challenge for the twenty drivers on the grid. With only one real overtaking opportunity, located at the first corner at the end of the circuit's only DRS zone, they will all have to take maximum risks to attempt a maneuver on an opponent.
As a reminder, the 4,909-kilometer track is made up of 17 bends. Some have become legendary, such as the Acque Minerali series, the Rivazza double left, and the Tosa hairpin. Not forgetting, of course, the infamous Tamburello, which became a chicane after Ayrton Senna's fatal accident.
On the current grid, only three drivers have won in Emilia-Romagna: Max Verstappen three times (2021, 2022 and 2024), Lewis Hamilton (2020) et Fernando Alonso, including victory in 2005, after an epic resistance against Michael Schumacher, has remained in the annals of Formula 1. The race lap record is currently held by Verstappen, in 1'14"746, achieved last year. In the race, it will take 63 laps, for a total distance of 309,267 km.
