After 24 action-packed races, the 2025 season of Formula 1 delivered its verdict. In Abu Dhabi, Lando Norris managed to maintain a sufficient advantage over Max Verstappen (two points), to become the 35th champion in the history of the discipline.
Having himself experienced decisive championship finals (1983, 1984, 1986 and 1988. Editor's note), Alain Prost He reflects on the campaign that is drawing to a close, in his capacity as an expert. He then recalls the difficulties that Lando Norris faced in his quest for the title, and which make him a deserving champion.
"Over a 24-race season, you have to be consistent," "That's what the four-time French world champion told Canal + in Abu Dhabi." Today, the reliability of the cars is almost 100%. In fact, he was the one who had the biggest mechanical problem at Zandvoort. He paid a heavy price for it then. It's difficult to compare a season like Max's, who is somewhat alone at his level in his team, with the two of them who shared the wins and points. You had to be resilient, mentally strong. And he was.
Piastri will have to quickly establish himself at McLaren
Alain Prost then looked ahead to the 2026 season, which he believes will be interesting to follow given the three main contenders. Before it begins, however, he had some advice for Oscar piastri. While McLaren While Ferrari has insisted on not favoring any of its drivers since the start of the season, the tide could turn in Norris's favor next year due to his new status. It will therefore be imperative for the Australian to oppose this to ensure a fair title race.
“Will we see a new Norris now that he’s world champion? Will we see a different Piastri? Now he’s the challenger, he’ll have to establish himself within his team. He almost did. We mustn’t forget that Lando is English after all. There are little things that can turn the tide. With the new regulations, everything will be up for grabs, so we’ll see. It was a regular season, but there was still some panache. A little less than Max, but Max is once again a cut above.” concluded the Tricolore.

@Lucas Paul: Antonelli is certainly talented but still too inexperienced... To achieve his podium finishes, he benefited from a car that finished 2nd in the constructors' championship, whereas Hadjar and Bearman delivered outstanding performances driving cars that were far less fast and consistent. For now, Antonelli isn't all that impressive. Hamilton was much more impressive against Alonso back in the day. Even Verstappen in the Toro Rosso impressed me more.

Good analysis Vincent, but don't forget little Andrea :):):) Do you know many drivers who've achieved so many podium finishes in their first year in F1?????

As someone said on another topic, you have to lose a title to win it. Piastri now knows what a title fight is like, and I think he's going to be Norris's worst nightmare, and we know Verstappen doesn't scare him. In the top five, we have the four most talented and competitive drivers of their generation: Verstappen, Norris, Leclerc, and Russell. And Piastri, in just three seasons, has established himself in this group with a more impressive record than some of them. He's going to make them suffer.

With Norris wearing the number 1, some of whose affairs are managed by Zak Brown, and the Papaya Rules still in place in 2026, Piastri will have to assert himself from the outset on the track against his garage neighbor... but who can predict what 2026 will look like?
