Wilson founded the stable of WRC M-Sport, still active today, since it enters Ford Pumas in the World Cup. Before launching his own structure, Malcolm Wilson was a driver of rally, notably British champion in 1994. That same year, he participated in several WRC rounds, finishing sixth in the Acropolis Rally. Appointed by FIA President Mohammed Ben Sulayem as Deputy President for Sport, Wilson will have to be confirmed in a vote. This will be held in Macau, during the FIA's Extraordinary General Meetings and Conference, which will take place next June.

"I am pleased to nominate Malcolm Wilson for the position of FIA Deputy President for Sport.", declared the president of the international body. “Malcolm has had a distinguished career in world motorsport. For more than 40 years, he has competed at the highest level, both as a driver and as a technical partner to manufacturers. This experience will be invaluable to the FIA and our member clubs as we continue to develop amateur and professional motorsport, driving innovation in the sport for the benefit of fans, drivers, and teams.”

For his part, Malcolm Wilson is obviously honored to receive such an appointment. The Briton will serve alongside Mohammed bin Sulayem until the end of his presidential term in December. While no candidate has yet stepped forward to challenge the current president, there's no doubt that negotiations are underway behind the scenes. Whether they will result in a duel or a re-election without an opponent is impossible to predict at this point.

“The FIA has played a pivotal role in my career, and I look forward to supporting the President and the entire FIA family in his important mission. There has never been a more exciting time for motor sport, and I know firsthand the benefits the sport brings to families and communities around the world. I look forward to working with the President throughout his current term, bringing our sport to new audiences, and ensuring we deliver the best championships for all our competitors.”
