Ferrari about to introduce its new rear axle late?

Beyond the tensions that arose within the Scuderia during the Miami Grand Prix, the SF-25 still has the same structural problems. The rear axle adjustment may not happen until Silverstone.

Like the new podium created by Lewis Hamilton in a sprint race in Miami, Ferrari stays on the lookout for every opportunity to score big points. In Jeddah, Charles Leclerc had been among the most impressive drivers on the grid in terms of pace and tyre conservation, while in the shorter races Hamilton regularly remains at the forefront.

However, apart from these few positive observations, Ferrari is stagnating. Despite the decision to stop developments by Williams, the Grove team still dominated the Scuderia in terms of speed during the last Florida weekend. Giving the impression of sliding during each fast section, the SF-25 will receive a major update, but it should be a while before it arrives.

A new rear suspension developed by Loïc Serra

For several months, Ferrari has been without a dedicated technical director for 2024. In this context, preparations for 2025 have been delayed, which partly explains the Italians' situation to date. Apart from the simple aerodynamic aspect, the car appears to be experiencing a significant structural problem. At the rear end, the suspension appears to be the keystone of its persistent malfunction. Pilots cannot exceed a certain limit while flying, fatally limiting the results obtained.

So, Auto Racer announced this week that a new rear suspension was indeed under development at Maranello. During the season, such a gamble could prove costly, and represent one of, if not the last, chance for the Scuderia this season. Although new parts are also planned for Imola and Barcelona to address some secondary aerodynamic issues, Ferrari is counting on the introduction of this new suspension in the coming weeks.

However, while the part's development has been completed and it has been properly tested in the wind tunnel, it is not expected to be usable until the Silverstone Grand Prix. The first deadline in July will symbolically mark the mid-season and will most likely determine the next steps for the team led by Frédéric Vasseur.

Such a major change in July 2025, therefore a huge gamble for the second part of the season, because it is difficult not to imagine that all of the Scuderia's resources will switch entirely to 2026 at that time!
