Yes, the unthinkable. If we exclude Jochen Rindt, who wasn't yet World Champion when he was killed, he's the only World Champion to have died in a race. We thought (naively and foolishly, even) that it couldn't happen. And the worst part is that with Prost and Mansell's departures, F1 was decapitated: not a single active World Champion, not a driver with more than 10 wins, it was as if F1 had ceased to exist, as if it were starting abruptly from scratch. And above all, Senna wasn't just a driver chasing statistics or a record. He lived on another planet, in search of the absolute, a kind of perfection that doesn't exist here.

A weekend… Black for Motorsport!!! May 1st, 94, no one will ever forget it! First, Rubens in practice, a terrible crash, and then Roland's death on Saturday… And then the start of the race… Ayrton wasn't there, physically yes, but mentally no 😪. And then the unthinkable happened… that damn steering column broke, and Ayrton… Then the incidents at the start, and in the pits… The world of motorsport stopped, and in Brazil 🇧🇷… 😭😭😭 Thankfully, for all his fans, he is still alive.
