In Italy, Pierre Gasly started his weekend in Emilia-Romagna with a bang. Sixth in Free Practice 1 and third in Free Practice 2, the driver Alpine experienced the same downgrade as in Jeddah for example, where success had already smiled on him on Friday. At the gate of the points at the start, it was an error made in his duel with Charles Leclerc which earned him another brutal relegation in the race, preventing him from scoring valuable points at the finish.

“We talked about it right after the race, and then again here after reviewing the footage, he explained about this racing incident. Everything is clear between us. We've already fought wheel to wheel, like at Turn 7 where Charles put his nose in. At the end, I tried to make the turn, but there was less grip than expected. But everything is settled, we're friends off the track, but on the track, we fight hard.

Faced with a completely different configuration in Monaco, Pierre Gasly could choose to change his approach somewhat. Although his car does not allow him to compete with the top of the table, the Frenchman remains ambitious with the idea of having an effective, if not decisive, qualifying session.

Gasly is counting on surprises and a good strategyAlpine

“Monaco is difficult to predict. It’s one of the few circuits where the driver can really make the difference. It’s where the gap between the cars can be reduced, which creates opportunities, he remindsI love this track. It's one of my favorites and I hope we can score some points."

Evasive about any possible numerical objectives, the French driver seems above all to hope to take advantage of a single-seater that has been disappointing so far. Placed at the heart of a high part of a strong field during the winter tests in Bahrain, Alpine has clearly never been able to extract the full potential of the A525. In fact, while he cannot challenge the best on a regular basis, Pierre Gasly is counting on the essentials on the Rock.

"Regarding the two-stop race, I think it can open up strategic options. However, for the person concerned, the main thing will be decided, once again, on Saturday. In Monaco, qualifying remains the key. If you do a good job in qualifying, you've already done half the work.

Having had little success in qualifying since the start of the 2025 season, Pierre Gasly was notably caught out by a late pit exit at Imola, despite a performance that he himself said was on target. Managed well, this new qualifying session could be the salvation of a driver who is still desperately lacking a benchmark result this year.

Yes, as usual, and then nothing. The guy does 3 or 4 good races a year and then nothing. Too irregular, in my opinion, Briatore will get rid of him at the end of the season.
