Hungary, revenge after the Monaco debacle for Haas?

In Monaco, Haas probably had its worst weekend of the year. In Hungary, on a track which takes on the characteristics of the Principality circuit, the American team intends to once again play the outsiders.

Before scoring 20 points in two races (in Austria and at Silverstone), Haas remained in five Grands Prix without entering the top 10 once. The high point of this bad series? The Monaco Grand Prix where the two VF-24s were forced to start at the back of the grid after an non-regulatory rear wing adjustment. Their race ended prematurely on Sunday following a collision with Sergio Pérez at the exit of turn 1.

Of course, the bad Monegasque memory is now far away but Haas intends to make it forget in Hungary, on a more or less similar route. “ Budapest is a circuit with very short straight lines, judge Ayao Komatsu, team principal of the American team. It’s sort of a “Monaco-esque” circuit with its downforce. So we're bringing the level of downforce from Monaco and combining it with the updates from Silverstone.

I know in Monaco we were fast on the straights, but with the updates we have of course improved the downforce, so I'm looking forward to seeing what we can do in Hungary. It will be a very different challenge to Silverstone because qualifying is everything. It's very, very difficult to overtake at the Hungaroring, so you put more emphasis on qualifying. In Monaco, we couldn't win anything and I would like to remedy that, it's like a second Monaco for us. I'm looking forward to it, it's a very different challenge, but we're ready. »

Just like his boss, Kevin Magnussen was both excited about returning to the Hungaroring but also confident about their chances of getting into the points zone again. “Looking at the whole season, we have been competitive at most of the circuits we have been to, so hopefully we will have another competitive weekend in Hungary, smiles the Dane. It's a small circuit, a bit like a track. karting, and there is always a good atmosphere – there are often quite a few Danish fans at this circuit. We're going into a double header with two very different circuits: one is almost like Monaco and the other is Spa, so we're really going to put the VF-24 to the test. »
