After several setbacks, Jack Doohan finally found refuge at Haas. Benefiting from the support of ToyotaThe strengthened partnership between the American team and the Japanese brand has opened the door to Doohan's return to the premier class. My goal is to be in Formula 1To race in Formula 1, he told the media on the sidelines of the pre-season tests held in Bahrain in mid-February. Haas gave me this opportunity. »

The former F1 driver had indeed failed to secure the hoped-for seat in Super Formula, after winter testing deemed unconvincing by Kondo Racing: the Australian had crashed three times in Degner, the same sector where he had lost control of his Alpine during the 2025 Japanese Grand Prix.

The end of the partnership with his former team Alpine, where he had been demoted to the position of reserve pilot, had also been made official in January 2026, leaving Jack Doohan with no options to continue his career.

Starting over on a good footing

Now a reserve player, the Aussie has joined Japan's Ryō Hirakawa, 31, who has been part of the team since April 2025. I wouldn't say that the last ten months have been the best of my life, but we are making a fresh start. I'm happy to put the past behind me and embark on this new adventure with a fresh mind. So, I'm going to start from scratch, be a sponge, absorb everything I can, and learn as much as possible so I can contribute wherever I can. »

Meanwhile, the Gold Coast (Australia) native tested an LMP2 car with Algarve Pro Racing. He is indeed considering a program in ELMS, whose calendar, however, overlaps with that of F1. After competing in only one Grand Prix in 2024 and six in 2025, Doohan must maintain his physical condition at the highest level to hope to be back in the driver's seat from 2027 onwards.

« The most important thing is that I keep racing. I haven't raced much in the last two years, with a sabbatical year in 2024, chosen by the team, and then last year, where unfortunately I didn't race as much as I would have liked. He explains. It's crucial that I stay fit for racing this year through a program I hope to finalize in the coming days. This will then allow the team and me to organize my participation [in F1 weekends] to ensure I'm on track as much as possible, but also in the simulator at the factory, to make sure the work is done behind the scenes. »

For now, the Australian doesn't yet know when he'll be back on track driving a Haas. This will be organized once the full plan and my race schedule are finalized. »
