After checking, there weren't any before him, indeed! Now, there's a very delicate step to take between a development driver role and being on the grid...

👍 I also looked, but didn't find anyone! Having visited the old Piriapolis circuit in Uruguay, the site of the 1952 Uruguayan Grand Prix won by Fangio, I was hoping there might be a Paraguayan driver on the starting grid... There were only Argentinians, Uruguayans, and Brazilians, as well as "Gringos," including five French drivers (Manzon, Simon, Trintignant, Rosier, and Giraud-Canbatous)! That said, Dürksen has dual Paraguayan and German nationality, which is why Mercedes signed him, perhaps thinking they had found a successor to Schumacher and Vettel?
