At the forefront until the start of Q2, Lance stroll plummeted down the standings at the end of the session, ultimately finishing twelfth, while his teammate Fernando Alonso managed to qualify for Q3. The Canadian explains that this came from an attempt to switch to intermediate tires, an attempt that ultimately failed.
“In Q1 and at the beginning of Q2, we were ahead, so it was a bad decision to go for the intermediates. The team and I thought the conditions would be sufficient for the intermediates. I was supposed to have three laps, but I only ended up with two because of that.”
Upset, the pilot of theAston Martin Number 18 believes he could have fought for Q3, or even done better, if he had stayed on wet tires for the end of the second qualifying session. Lance Stroll is no stranger to miracles in the rain, having secured his only pole position in F1 in difficult conditions, during the 2020 Turkish Grand Prix.
“I think we threw away an opportunity to maybe fight for first place today. That’s certainly the impression I had at the start of Q2, or at least that we could fight for the top three. It was complicated.”
It remains to be seen whether Lance Stroll will be able to make a comeback this Sunday (start at 5am) in the race, driving an Aston Martin which could aspire to score some points on the Las Vegas Strip circuit.

"If my mother had it, it would be my father"... if wishes were horses! Very funny, the only permanent contract on the grid that he didn't even know he was willing to take. If he thought he was going for pole position, his teammate would certainly have snatched it up with the old trickster, but that wasn't the case.
