Lando Norris: “Carlos (Sainz) should have gone to Red Bull”

While Carlos Sainz et Williams announced their collaboration coming from the 2025 season, many followers were surprised by the fact that Red Bull ou Mercedes never really tried to lure the Spaniard into their net, given the driver's recent performances Ferrari. The Iberian therefore ended up falling back on signing with Williams, a choice by default even if he was convinced by James Vowles' project.

Some drivers themselves were surprised to see Sainz having been shunned by the top teams, due to lack of available places for some or strategic choices for others. To start with Lando Norris, who did not hesitate to say out loud what many are thinking quietly.

“Honestly, the easiest thing is to say Red Bull – he should have gone there, in my eyes. Obviously I'm biased - I know Carlos more than Checo, but Carlos deserves a lot. He is one of the best drivers in Formula 1. He's proven it countless times. And I'm a good friend of his. I'm happy for him that he's still in Formula 1, I'm happy that he got a drive and can try to bring Williams back."

Within the Grove team, Carlos Sainz will join another close friend of Lando Norris in the person of Alex Albon. “The fact that he’s teaming up with Alex, I think it would be good for Formula 1 at the same time – so it’s a good thing. But I'm sure a lot of people would like to say he should have gone to Red Bull, potentially. But it’s not up to me to make that decision.”
