The adventure enters Kevin Magnussen et Haas will it really end at the end of the 2024 season? If we know that the Dane will no longer drive for the American team from next year – he will be replaced by Esteban Ocon and Oliver Bearman in 2025 – it is not out of the question that the 32-year-old will remain linked to the American team in the coming years.
It must be said that the driver and the team have built a strong relationship since their first association in 2017. Despite a one-season separation in 2021, Kevin Magnussen has remained loyal to Haas between 2017 and today, to the point of being the most having competed in the most Grands Prix with this young team (142 Grands Prix before Las Vegas). If this relationship has had its ups and downs, the Magnussen-Haas couple has almost become inseparable, and the American team would like to offer the Dane a new role in the years to come.
Magnussen and Haas on the same wavelength?
Last July, team principal Ayao Komatsu expressed hope that the two sides could "find a way to continue working together, in some way," recalling Kevin Magnussen's "special relationship" with the team. Four months later, has the situation changed? “Yes, we are still working on it, responded the main interested party before the Brazilian Grand Prix, who explained that both parties were taking their time to discuss the future. We're not really stressed – during a triple header we're just busy, trying to do our best on the track. Because there's no stress and we kind of know what we want to do, there's no rush."
If Kevin Magnussen is set to contest his last three Grands Prix with Haas – perhaps the last three of his career in Formula 1 – his plans for next season are still unknown. The Dane could return to the United States to continue his career but nothing has been decided yet. While waiting for a clearer future in motorsport, the 32-year-old driver wants to end his adventure with Haas on a high note, while the American team fights for 6th place in the Constructors' Championship against Alpine and Racing Bulls.
“It’s a tight fight with our main competitors in the championship and it can change quickly. So we have to stay focused and do a good job to beat [Racing Bull and Alpine], Kevin Magnussen stressed. I think about this championship, about finishing as high as possible for the team and focusing on every race. I know that in this sport, only the results obtained on the track count.
