The McLaren and Ferrari were expected to fight for pole position this Saturday at Silverstone, but the two teams ultimately lost to a Max Verstappen imperial. Last on track in Q3, the four-time world champion produced a magical lap at the wheel of his Red Bull to steal the best time from his rivals.
« It was complicated with the wind, said Max Verstappen after the session. The conditions changed between Q1, Q2, and Q3. Here, with these cars that are very sensitive to the wind, it's complicated. I tried to put everything together. I managed a good lap. This track is exceptional with all these corners where you can go flat out. You have to be really committed, and it's very enjoyable. »
« We are quite fast in a straight line, explains the pole sitter. However, the car is not easy to control in the fast corners. We'll see what tomorrow brings. It might rain. I'm happy to end the qualifying session like this. It's very exciting for tomorrow."
« We will fight and try to stay ahead in the race,” Max Verstappen obviously promised. Join us at 16:00 p.m. (French time) this Sunday for the start of the British Grand Prix, to be followed live with commentary on AUTOhebdo.fr.

Don't get too excited, why Norris P3? They sacrificed qualifying for the race, otherwise Max would have been behind McLaren.

With reduced downforce, Verstappen will slide through the corners and eat up his tires. It might be possible to take pole position for a single lap, but it will be tricky in the race. He'll be competing alongside a young, ambitious driver who doesn't impress Verstappen in the least.

With a setup that deliberately favors top speed in a straight line, how will the RB21 perform in race pace tomorrow? One thing is certain, Tsunoda can't do it, even if his car isn't strictly identical to that of his Dutch teammate.
