It was indeed on December 5th that the RM Sotheby's auction, which was of particular interest to the racing team, was held near the Yas Marina circuit. WokingFor the first time, a racing team was actually auctioning off cars that had not yet raced!

Indeed, the Formula 1 McLaren's 2026 model, as well as the car Pato O'Ward will drive next year at the Indianapolis 500 and the Hypercar that will make its debut in WEC In 2027, all three were for sale. An original way for Zak Brown's team to celebrate its first attempt to achieve the Triple Crown in the same year, by winning the Indy 500, the Monaco Grand Prix and the 24 Hours of Le Mans, from 2027.

Unsurprisingly, it was the Formula 1 car, the McLaren MCL40A, that sold for the highest price, $11,480,000 (€9,857,876). However, the lucky buyer will not be able to take possession of their car until 2028, as with the...IndyCar and the Hypercar were also sold.

The car, which will make its debut in the WEC and at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 2027, was sold for $7,598,750. €6,525,046. The car Pato O'Ward's, meanwhile, was sold for $848,750, or €728,821.

As expected, however, the three racing cars sold by McLaren were not the most expensive vehicles at this RM Sotheby's auction. That distinction went to a road car, but still a McLaren!

The 1994 McLaren F1, originally sold new to the Brunei royal family and restored by McLaren in 2007, sold for over $25 million (nearly €21,5 million). While the three Triple Crown cars sold for amounts in line with their estimates, the 14th of the 64 road-going F1s found a buyer for more than €3 million above the estimate!

It is now up to Lando Norris et Oscar piastri to clinch the world drivers' title this Sunday, so that the celebration is complete in Woking!
