McLaren wins in Singapore: Constructors' title before Drivers' crown?

Under the night lights of the Marina Bay Circuit, McLaren celebrated its supremacy in the 2025 season. With its drivers in third and fourth position, the Woking team crossed the finish line as Constructors' champions. This is a tenth title for the papaya-print team, which now ranks second best in the history of the sport, behind the Team Ferrari (16 victories).

« This is great, rejoices Zak Brown, CEO of McLaren F1, after the Singapore GP. We have an incredible team here, but also at the factory. Andrea's leadership is impressive. It's a team effort, and it's incredible to win the championship for the second time in a row. » An enthusiasm shared by Andrea Stella, director of the papaya stable. It's an incredible emotion. I absolutely want to share it with the team. I also want to thank them for the incredible work they do. insists the Italian. There are still six Grands Prix left, even if it seems incredible! All of this is thanks to the hard work of everyone at McLaren. Thank you to our supporters, to our partners; it's a team effort. It's great to see all of this rewarded in this way.»

Throughout the year, Oscar piastri et Lando Norris formed a formidable duo with twelve Grand Prix victories to their name, but not without flaws. Their chemistry, sometimes tinged with tension – notably during the weekend in Singapore with a collision on the first lap – never affected the ultimate objective: bringing the Constructors' Trophy back to Woking. The two teammates thus played the game of team orders more than once to maximize the number of points. Our drivers have driven brilliantly throughout the season, and it's also thanks to them that we've won this title today. We obviously have a policy of letting them fight., admits Zak Brown. They are fighting hard but cleanly for victories. I hope there will be more great ones for both of them this season. »

Tenth Constructors' title for McLaren in Singapore

The Singapore Grand Prix was shaping up to be the moment of truth: all it took was for one of the two McLarens – or both – to score 13 points to seal the deal after an initial misfire in Baku (Azerbaijan). McLaren held firm and on the winding Marina Bay circuit, the long-awaited moment arrived: the confirmation of the Constructors' title. Woking secured its second consecutive title, a first since the period 1988-1991, when the team won four.

But beyond the shared celebration on the Singapore podium, eyes are already turning to the challenges ahead: succeeding in transforming this collective success into an individual crown for at least one of its drivers, defending this title against Max Verstappen threatening, and maintain the internal balance between two champions in the making. Andrea Stella, for his part, is already looking to the future. We're working very hard to continue this winning streak. Of course, there will be a big change in regulations next year, we know it will be difficult, recalls the director of the champion stable. We will give everything to be there. »

On this Sunday evening in Singapore, McLaren can nevertheless congratulate itself on having etched its name in Formula 1 history – but this is only the beginning with the Drivers' Championship to play for.

How far we've come since McLaren's first victory in 1968, which I was lucky enough to witness, two years before a sad Belgian GP where there was no McLaren at the start, and for good reason...

McLaren has finally returned to its place as one of F1's flagship teams. On the driver front, things are getting a bit messy, with Piastri seemingly losing his nerve with the fear of losing as the season draws to a close, and Norris, terrified by Verstappen, who won't hesitate to kick him out if given the chance. The Dutchman must be laughing under his helmet, because if he doesn't win the title, he's the one choosing which of the papaya boys will. A strange situation.
