Miami GP: Antonelli holds off Norris and wins again!

For the third consecutive time, Kimi Antonelli emerged victorious from a Grand Prix. Following his successes in Japan and China, the Italian extends his lead in the championship, even though it wasn't all smooth sailing, due in particular to a poor start.

Miami GP: Antonelli holds off Norris and wins again!

The unpredictable Miami weather hung like a sword of Damocles over the drivers' heads all weekend, but the skies finally remained calm by the time of the race, save for a few light showers around lap 25. The only real spark around Hard Rock Stadium came from Kimi Antonelli, winner of his third consecutive race and now firmly in the championship lead with a 20-point advantage over his teammate George Russell.

However, nothing came easy for the Italian, who had secured pole position on Saturday but once again had a mediocre start. He was immediately overtaken by Charles Leclerc, the pilot Mercedes Benz He went straight into the escape road while trying to delay his braking. But he was fortunate in his misfortune: Max Verstappen went into a spin in front of him, slowing down the entire pack and allowing him to exit the series of first corners in the slipstream of Charles Leclerc.

What followed was a back-and-forth battle between the two men, with one passing the other over. Lando NorrisThird, acting as arbiter of the duel. The world champion was advised by his race engineer, Will Joseph, to stay in contact, letting the two leaders battle it out. But the battle of the leaders between Mercedes and Classic Ferrari for sale was interrupted on lap 5 by the deployment of the safety car just as Norris had attacked Antonelli: shortly after overtaking Arvid Lindblad, Isack Hadjar lacked precision as he entered the tight sequence of turns 14 and 15. Touching the wall with his front left tire, the Parisian, who started from the pits after being disqualified from qualifying for a technical infringement, broke his suspension and was unable to prevent his Red Bull to shoot straight into the wall.

Disaster for Hadjar and Gasly as early as lap 5

Even before race control deployed the safety car, Pierre Gasly He too ended up in the wall three corners later. Under braking for Turn 17, the Frenchman tried to overtake Liam Lawson's Racing Bull, who locked his wheels while trying to defend and sent theAlpine in barrel rolls. The cup to the dregs for the French. Fortunately, neither pilot was injured, while Nico Hulkenberg, due to a technical problem, and Liam Lawson, following damage caused by the collision with Gasly, retired.

When the race resumed, Lando Norris eventually took the lead ahead of Kimi Antonelli, who had to wait until his pit stop on lap 26 to make the undercut on the McLarenUnderstand that by stopping a little earlier, the Italian capitalized on his out lap to overtake the Briton at the beginning of lap 28, when the latter had just switched to hard tires.

The two men remained wheel-to-wheel until the finish, while Kimi Antonelli repeatedly complained of gearbox problems, particularly when downshifting. It's a topic he can discuss with Max Verstappen, who suffered similar issues throughout the 2025 season with his Red Bull… Despite Lando Norris maintaining intense pressure on the championship leader, staying within two seconds, he was never able to challenge him for the victory.

Charles Leclerc makes a mistake on the last lap

Oscar piastri He completed the podium after overtaking Charles Leclerc two laps from the finish. Attempting to retake the McLaren, the Monegasque driver made a costly error, spinning out on the 57th and final lap. While he managed to finish the race, the damage to his car forced him to slow down, allowing Russell and Verstappen to overtake him and relegate him to a cruel 6th place, ahead of his teammate Lewis Hamilton.

Max Verstappen ultimately had to settle for 5th place after losing ground to Russell's Mercedes in the closing laps. Their intense battle ended with contact that broke one of the winglets on the Mercedes' front wing, allowing it to overtake on the following lap. The Dutchman made an early pit stop and attempted an alternative strategy that briefly propelled him to the lead. However, the approximately 20-lap difference in tire wear between his tires and those of his rivals inevitably caused him to drop back as the laps progressed. The result remains acceptable, though, considering the first-corner spin that dropped him to 9th.

Note that behind Franco Colapinto, convincing 8th with his Alpine, both Williams jointly entered the points for the first time this season, with Carlos Sainz in front of Alex Albon. Esteban Ocon, 13th, leaves Miami empty-handed. Formula 1 will resume in three weeks in Montreal for the Canadian Grand Prix (May 22-24).

I like that expression, Yves-Henri, "against their will," it fits perfectly with what F1 driving has become in 2026: drivers overtake or are overtaken "against their will" depending on the "tricks they have or don't have"... but hey, it's better to laugh about it! 😂

Having missed the Grand Prix live due to the early start time to avoid thunderstorms, I discovered the results on AutoHebdo.fr around 9:45 PM, quite by accident. I then settled for the 9-minute summary from RTBF, which made me glad I missed the entire race. One seemingly positive point compared to the previous four Grand Prix: less "yo-yo racing"... but reading the comments below, that clearly wasn't the case! So, were the rule changes ultimately ineffective?

Indeed, Marc and the spectacle are appalling.

It's clear that this is a completely artificial and rather incomprehensible "show." You don't overtake when you're faster or when you brake later, but when you press a button, like, "Hey, I'm going to overtake." And the car behind you returns the favor. It's frankly ridiculous.

F1 has become rubbish!!! It's appalling to see Canal+ ranting at drivers braking to charge crappy batteries; it's not racing anymore, it's a show! Count me out
