Montoya sees Lawson already threatened at Racing Bulls

Still out of the points since the start of the 2025 season, Liam Lawson doesn't seem to be rediscovering his former form at Racing Bulls. Could this jeopardize his future in Formula 1 after his demotion?

Will the New Zealander have to raise his game in the coming weeks to ensure he stays? At the heart of a media whirlwind from the start of the season, Liam Lawson had been chosen by Red Bull to appear alongside Max Verstappen before returning to the Racing Bulls stable after just two matches.

Visibly affected by this experience, the end of which leaves a notable aftertaste of failure, the player concerned is no longer able to distinguish himself. While the Red Bull team is vast, with many young drivers performing well in the promotion categories, Juan Pablo Montoya has allowed himself to remotely warn Liam Lawson of a possible end to his career before the end of the current season.

Speaking to the Spanish daily AS, Juan Pablo Montoya expressed his opinion on the New Zealand driver's start to the season. According to the Colombian driver, Red Bull will not hesitate to push hard again this year. "I'll tell you the truth. If Liam's condition doesn't improve, I wouldn't be surprised if they take Lindblad back one day. I wouldn't be surprised at all."

Lindblad, Red Bull's future choice?

"The situation with Red Bull was complicated and I think he took a very hard blow to the liver. He needs significant psychological help after that, mentioned the former Williams et McLaren about Lawson. And if he doesn't recover soon, I'm sure Red Bull will start looking elsewhere, because that's how they operate. It's Red Bull, it's a bit like what's happening with Alpine right now. Every time Franco (Colapinto. Ed.) doesn't look good, the same thing will happen."

Recent winner of the sprint race in Jeddah, Arvid Lindblad is indeed one of the biggest British prospects of the new generation. Third in Italian F4 in 2023, the Red Bull protégé notably won the Macau Grand Prix the same year (still in F4). At the start of 2025, he also won the Oceania Regional Formula before starting his first season in F2 with Campos Racing.

Highly visible since the beginning of his young career, Arvid Lindblad became the youngest winner in the history of Formula 2 at 17 years old by winning on Saudi soil. This promising success is naturally being watched by the Red Bull fold, although no promotion in Formula 1 has not yet really been discussed at such an early stage. However, in the future, he could indeed become the Academy's favorite if there is another strong choice.

I just looked at the list of reserve drivers in your columns, and it would be... Tsunoda at RBR, which would mean they don't have any left?? And there's Iwasa at Racing Bulls. Lindblad has just arrived in F2, and so the choice is starting to narrow down at RB as I suspected. Some are managing to find a renewed motivation like Gasly or Albon, but Lawson seems to have taken the hit. Thanks Helmut...

Arvid Lindblad is already scheduled for EL1 this season with Ridiculous Bulls. Obviously, if Lawson doesn't get things back on track, the management of the cans will release him... after having stated a few weeks ago that "his demotion allowed him to protect his career",🤣!
