With the McLaren MCL39 still having four Grands Prix to contest, the name of its successor has leaked via an auction organized by the team.

The name of the new McLaren revealed at auction

As revealed last August, McLaren will auction off cars from upcoming seasons, even before they've taken to the track. Just under three months before the first tests of the Formula 1 The car McLaren will use to try and win a third consecutive constructors' world title in 2026 will be auctioned on December 5th. It is in Abu Dhabi, as part of an RM Sotheby's sale, that the car, now known as the McLaren MCL40A, will be up for auction.

Single seat As the new era of Formula 1 approaches, with new technical regulations debuting in 2026, the McLaren MCL40A will be delivered to its new owner in the first quarter of 2028. During the period between the sale and delivery of the car, the buyer will be able to rent a show car of the 2025 MCL39, as well as enjoy a VIP experience at two F1 Grands Prix, the Indianapolis 500, and the... 24 Hours of Le Mansand a visit to the McLaren Technology Centre in Woking.

Because in Abu Dhabi, McLaren will also be selling one of its IndyCar, which will compete in the Indy 500 in 2026, as well as the British brand's first Hypercar. The latter will make its competitive debut in 2027 in the World Championship.Enduranceand the 24 Hours of Le Mans. The Formula 1 car is estimated to cost between €8,5 and €10,5 million, while the Hypercar is expected to sell for between €5 and €7 million. Unsurprisingly, the IndyCar represents the "budget" choice of the three, with an estimated price between €430,000 and €600,000.

While the McLaren MCL40A will logically be one of the most expensive cars at the RM Sotheby's Abu Dhabi auction on December 5th, it is not expected to be the most expensive car overall; that distinction belongs to a McLaren F1 road car.
