Lando Norris certainly experienced his best first part of the season of his career, at least from an accounting point of view: 199 points, eight podiums and above all, a first victory in Formula 1 during the Miami Grand Prix. Second in the championship at halfway, the Briton is fully in the title race despite the big delay of 78 points on Max Verstappen. However, the pilot McLaren is far from being satisfied or satiated.

The Englishman knows that he is driving what is currently the best car in the field... but apart from the Floridian triumph, Lando Norris has always failed in his quest for a second victory. Whether due to an accident at the end of the race (Austria), failed strategies (Great Britain) or team instructions (Hungary), the 24-year-old driver found himself frustrated on several occasions. However, these failures are also due to personal errors admits the Briton, very critical of himself.

“In the first half of the season I didn't reach the level of a world champion, it's as simple as that, concedes Lando Norris. At times I had it and even in a lot of races, but little things escaped me and I can't afford that. I know it and I'm not happy about it, but it's because I'm passionate and I want to win. »

Norris still growing in title(s)

Lando Norris refers in particular to his numerous failed starts at the start of the season, especially when he started from pole position. “There are a lot of things that I have looked at and worked on to come back stronger, he says. My opportunities disappeared when I left. There were some strong moments too, but they were always overshadowed by a bad start, a wrong turn, or trying to be too careful and stay out of trouble. I have to be perfect to compete with the drivers we are competing against, and the slightest weakness or deficit can bite you easily. »

Despite his mistakes and the resulting points lost, Lando Norris still believes in his title chances, and believes that both championships – Drivers and Manufacturers – can be acquired by the end of the season. “I want to be optimistic and say there are still chances. I know it's a lot and it will be a very difficult challenge to overcome, but knowing how I can behave when things are going well, I want to believe that it is possible. »
