Behind his teammate all weekend, who made a mistake during the Sprint, Oscar piastri didn't need an additional ten-second penalty at the Brazilian Grand Prix. Yet that's exactly what happened, following contact during the restart after the safety car period. The Australian took advantage of a good restart to join Kimi Antonelli and... Charles LeclercThe three pilots eventually collided, causing the retirement of the Classic Ferrari for sale.

The stewards ruled that Oscar Piastri was entirely at fault for the maneuver, and he received a ten-second penalty for his first pit stop. The Australian also received two additional penalty points on his license, bringing his total to eight over the last twelve months. Four more, and the title contender would miss a Grand Prix…

"I had a really good restart after the Safety Car, I dove down the inside, I was pretty well positioned…"Piastri explained to F1TV, before admitting to a wheel lock-up. However, he did not lose control of his McLaren. “I did lock the wheel a little, yes, but I also couldn’t go any further left than where I was. I can’t just suddenly disappear. After that, I’m not sure we made the right decisions either; it was simply a difficult race.”

Now 24 points behind his teammate Lando NorrisWorld championship leader Oscar Piastri is avoiding looking too far ahead with three races remaining. In a downward spiral since the Azerbaijan Grand Prix in Baku, the driver with number 81 hopes to first recover before aiming for the world title in the final three rounds, which will take place over three consecutive weeks.

"As far as the league is concerned, there's no point in thinking about it too much right now; we have things to sort out, that's clear. It was a difficult weekend in many respects, and I'm going to focus on that so it doesn't happen again."

An opportunist, he paid dearly for his failure... but had he managed to overtake Antonelli on the inside braking point of turn 1, everyone would have applauded the feat! At least he seized the opportunity that presented itself at the restart... "racing incident," but the stewards didn't see it that way!

Piastri may have forgotten the brake pedal

Too easy! He confused speed with haste, he's just another rookie with a better car than him.

There's nothing left for him to play for in the last three races except to save his second place, and certainly not to try and gain points on Norris just to play into Verstappen's hands! From this Brazilian Grand Prix onward, Piastri's role should have been to contain the Dutchman; instead, he's giving him two positions. I don't think McLaren is doing him any favors by letting him continue to believe in his chances. He can understand for himself that he cracked under the pressure in Baku, that he's trapped in a downward spiral of failure by becoming increasingly erratic, and that what he's desperately trying is now hurting his team.

Sorry for you, Oscar. I love your journey and what you were doing! But don't try to play Bad Max like you just did; you threw Kimi onto Charles with that "little" game! You're lucky Kimi got away unscathed, but for Charles, it's not pretty at all! So in the future, to stay the way you were this year, CHANGE! The 10-second punishment, for me, was "light"... but deserved!

It's under pressure that we discover the limits of the Australian's composure. Whatever happens during the last three GPs, he will nevertheless have shown his talent and had a remarkable season.

I completely agree with… Oscar! ‼️ A far too harsh penalty, and his team doing everything they could to prevent him from winning…? McLaren… 👎🤨. 😎👀. ?????
