Oscar Piastri wins in Saudi Arabia and takes the championship lead

@DPPI

La Formula 1 has changed king. Leader since the beginning of the season, Lando Norris lost the championship lead to his teammate Oscar piastri, winner of the fifth round of the season in Jeddah. After his crash in qualifying, it was expected that Lando Norris, 10th on the grid, would relinquish the lead in the standings, but it still remained to be seen who Max Verstappen, the poleman, or Oscar Piastri, 2nd, would inherit the crown.

The start was a heated one between the two men, with Max Verstappen trying as best he could to resist his rival's strong start. The Dutchman retained the lead after short-circuiting the first chicane, which earned him a five-second penalty. Despite the obvious difference in pace between the McLaren and Red BullOscar Piastri was patient, remaining behind the four-time world champion until his pit stop. After that, there was no contest, and despite his strong race, Max Verstappen had to settle for the silver medal.

He scored Red Bull's only points since the race of Yuki tsunoda ended on the first lap. The Japanese driver caused the only safety car outing of the weekend when he collided with Pierre Gasly at the 5th corner. The two former teammates touched as they started side by side on the fifth row.Alpine went into the wall, while the Red Bull was able to restart. Tsunoda had, however, touched the wall and damaged the rear of his car too much. car, making it impossible to continue the race.

While Gasly's retirement put paid to France's best chance of points, Isack Hadjar drove a perfect race to move up to 10th place. The Racing Bulls driver had a very good start to the race, despite his hard tyres while the majority of his rivals were on mediums. He overtook his teammate Liam Lawson, then Fernando Alonso in the opening laps to move back up to 10th place. The rest of his race was expertly executed to score a point and once again dominate his teammate Liam Lawson. The New Zealander was once again too messy, receiving a 10-second penalty for exceeding track limits. He still hasn't scored a single point...

Classic Ferrari for sale had not scored a single podium, but the Italian team relied on a Charles Leclerc excellent to finally end a long drought. The Monegasque took third place by containing the return of Lando Norris' McLaren, who finally finished 4th, just off the podium. Leclerc was able to extend his first stint on medium tires to put on the hard ones at the end of the race and benefit from fresher rubber to get back up to speed on the Mercedes Benz by George Russell, easily erased.

Lewis Hamilton On the other hand, he finished behind the two single-seaters of his former team, a sign of his lack of pace against Charles Leclerc throughout the weekend in Jeddah. He finished ahead of the two Williams, who managed to resist Hadjar to finish 8th and 9th, Sainz before Albon.

3 wins in 5 GPs, Piastri takes the lead in the standings and at McLaren. Breathtaking mastery for a driver who is barely starting his 3rd season. Verstappen is once again a victim of his ego: a race isn't won at the first corner... but he knew that by letting Piastri fly, he wouldn't have a chance. A nice first podium for Leclerc, decidedly the leader at Ferrari. Norris is barely saving the day. Second in the championship now, not too far behind Piastri, he will have to calmly pull himself together without overdriving to try to get back in the game. Antonelli still solid just behind Russell, nice group shot from the Williams and Hadjar still in the points and taking the lead at Racing Bulls, it bodes well. Hamilton... hmm, what can I say? How long will the adaptation excuse hold? For Alonso, it looks like one season too many. Too bad for Tsunoda and Gasly who ruined a potentially points-earning race.

As a former driver, my choice of two stops was the right one. Hats off to Oscar, a magnificent victory, one more... but tough on Max, because without the penalty it would have been even tougher... For Charles... hats off to the podium, for the Williams team, a great result... and Isack Hadjar in the points, that's great. Magnificent race, and hats off to all the drivers. 😎👀😉👍
