Pierre Gasly "disgusted" after losing the podium in Monaco

Having missed out on a podium finish in Monaco following a penalty, Pierre Gasly was struggling to cope with the blow.

The image is heartbreaking: Pierre Gasly celebrated like a madman in his Alpine What he thought would be his first podium of the season and one of the finest of his career in the streets of Monaco. But the voice of his engineer brought him back to reality: following a 10-second penalty, the Norman driver was relegated to 7th place.

The reason: a first 5-second penalty for speeding in the pit lane, then a second for the same reason, with speeding violations of 0,4 and 0,1 km/h. The result: a frustrating 7th place finish that deprived him of great joy at Monaco.

"Honestly, I don't know what to say. I'm speechless." he sighed, dejected, into the Canal+ microphone. "We had a perfect race, starting 9th and crossing the finish line in 3rd. For both pit stops, I used the pit limiter." (the speed limiter in the pit lane. Editor's note), It's set at 59,5 km/h with the speed limit at 60 km/h. So I don't know what happened. It's a podium finish in Monaco, for crying out loud… I'm gutted.

The Frenchman is among the many drivers penalized for speeding in the pit lane, which has prompted reactions from several of his competitors, including George Russell.

“It’s very strange that so many drivers received speeding penalties. I saw the data, I pressed my pit limiter before the line and released it after exiting the pits. I don’t know if I was doing 60 or 60,1 km/h, but the penalty seems harsh.” the pilot wondered Mercedes Benz.

Pierre Gasly, for his part, seemed convinced that he had driven at the correct speed, and his team could try, with data and telemetry in hand, to have these penalties overturned before race control.
