Who will accompany Nico Hülkberg in the Sauber/Audi colours next year? In recent weeks and months, many names have been mentioned with great Valtteri Bottas, Guanyu-Zhou… But at the moment, the German manufacturer remains quite open and is studying all the possibilities offered by the transfer market, including those of drivers who are not on the grid.
Indeed, according to Mattia Binotto, director of the Audi project since August 1st and the departure of Andreas Seidl, avenues leading to young profiles are being analyzed, including Theo Pourchaire, yet rarely mentioned when it comes to discussing the transfer window in recent times. However, the Tricolore is not the only one to be followed closely, the German firm keeping an eye on Gabriel Bortoleto, currently 2nd in the F2.
« Theo (Pourchaire) is our reserve driver and is already part of the family, and there is no doubt that he is on our list, assured Mattia Binotto on the sidelines of the Italian Grand Prix where Théo Pourchaire was.
Gabriel (Bortoleto) is doing very well in F2, he has shown that he has great talent. We are certainly watching what he does as we do with many others, but he is not the only name we are looking at.
There are many names on the list, with great potential, experience... Again, it is about judging what is most important for us in the short, medium and long term.. » So be patient before knowing the identity of the future teammate of Nico Hulkenberg.
