Time passes, months go by, but still no driver has been confirmed by Cadillac for its arrival in Formula 1 from the 2026 season. However, many profiles have circulated more or less concretely in recent weeks. Sergio Perez is for example among the serious prospects in view of his experience, and the financial windfall that the Mexican could bring with him in terms of his numerous sponsors.

In the same way, Guanyu-Zhou, current reservist of the Team Ferrari, or even Valterri Bottas, occupying the same position within the sector Mercedes and having himself proclaimed his availability, would be in the sights of the transatlantic firm. However, the initial project concerning the integration of an American pilot into the project appears to have stalled. Colton Herta, once a solid contender, could see his chance slip away. At the end of this week, Sky Sports then announced the possibility of seeing Ryan Blaney appear as a surprise candidate.

Blaney denies it in his own way

Champion of the NASCAR Cup Series contender in 2023, and recent winner of the Nashville race earlier this month, Ryan Blaney has been a member of Team Penske's class since 2018. Currently seventh in a general classification dominated by William Byron and his #24 Chevrolet, the American could actually qualify for a Super License if he were to finish the season ranked second or higher.

However, while discussions were being discussed between Team Penske and Cadillac F1 regarding a future transfer, the person concerned himself gave a simple yet evocative response on his X account. A clear "Nah.", effectively quashing the rumor. Clearly, Ryan Blaney will not be one of those who made the transition from NASCAR to F1.

They made the transition

While the list of drivers who have made the transition from Formula 1 to NASCAR is full of names such as Juan Pablo Montoya, Jacques Villeneuve, and Jenson Button, the reverse is rarer. The most illustrious is undoubtedly Mario Andretti. Between 1966 and 1969, the American notably won the Daytona 500 in 1967 before moving to Formula 1 the following year. Andretti and Dan Gurney – also an American – are the only drivers to have been victorious in Formula 1, in IndyCar, in the World Sportscar Championship and in NASCAR.

As things stand, no driver appears poised to continue in this series, while Cadillac should soon have to finalize its lineup for 2026.

So a Nascar driver could meet the Super License criteria while some Yankees in IndyCar can't! Something escapes me... unless Nascar is also considered a closed single-seater with its big naturally aspirated V8.
