Difficult for Sauber to start a new season after failing to finish last in the Constructors' standings with just four points scored in 2024. The team based in Hinwil, in full transition with Audi – which will take over in 2026 – is preparing for this new challenge by focusing on development during the season. "We have worked hard over the winter and are now ready to face the challenges that lie ahead, says Mattia Binotto, technical director of the Audi project F1. It will be a long and demanding season. We know that development will play a key role throughout the year, even as preparations for the 2026 campaign intensify.”
The Italian manager, who was propelled to the head of Sauber after the departures of Andreas Seidl and Oliver Hoffmann, has his eyes fixed on the future of his team alongside the German brand. "We will strive to make constant improvements and make the most of any opportunities that arise, announces the former boss of the Team Ferrari. We are committed to using the 2025 season to build a stronger foundation to achieve our long-term goals and move forward throughout the year.”
Hulkenberg and Bortoleto to launch the dynamic
For his sixteenth year in F1, Nico Hulkenberg returns to Sauber, where he had already played in 2013. As an experienced driver, he will have the task of helping his new team to get back on its feet and prepare for the future with Audi. "We are ready to take on the challenge that awaits us, supports the German pilot. We will focus on the progression and constant improvement of the team in all the necessary areas. While we are realistic about the steps ahead and the challenges we will face, we are confident about the progress we can make. I can't wait to start the season!"
The number 27 is not the only one eager to start the season at Sauber… Indeed, Gabriel Bortoleto is eagerly awaiting the chance to make his F1 debut with the Swiss firm: “I am incredibly excited to make my Formula 1 debut. It is a moment I have been working towards for a long time.” The Brazilian seems satisfied with the lessons learned from the Bahrain tests. "I feel like we've made a lot of progress in understanding the car, believes the rookie who, despite his titles in Formula 3 and Formula 2, has the least experience on the grid aboard a Formula 1. Every race is an opportunity to improve. I look forward to giving my best and pushing the team to improve throughout the season.”
