While Formula 1 was taking a week's break before the return of the Grand Prix to Europe, Mick Schumacher climbed onto a podium this weekend of May 9-11. Thanks to his great performance aboard theAlpine No. 36 at the 6 hours of Spa, the German has built up confidence before the big stage of the 24h of Le Mans.

In a context where the 26-year-old driver is beginning to string together satisfactory, even promising, performances in the World Endurance Championship, the sirens of Formula 1 are starting to sing again a few months before Cadillac's arrival in the paddock. Last February, the driver spoke precisely about his ambitions before starting his second season of WEC alongsideAlpine.

“F1 is still on my mind, it’s still my dream and it always will be, declared Mick Schumacher at a round table organized by Alpine and at which AUTOhebdo was present. However, what is clear to me is that the WEC is my number 1 priority, and with Alpine, together we try to be as fast as possible and for that, it requires 100% of my effort.

Vettel believes in Schumacher's redemption

In an interview with Sport.de and RTL/ntv, Sebastian Vettel expressed all the affection he felt for Mick Schumacher, who arrived in Formula 1 in a delicate sporting context. "I wish him good luck. We are of course in contact, and I also saw how his journey in Formula 1 ended. I keep my fingers crossed that he gets another chance, because I am convinced that he can absolutely compete with the others." commented the four-time world champion.

From Vettel's point of view, the new experience of the son of Michael Schumacher could allow him to come back with a new approach in the category he is targeting. "He is much more mature, especially since he does a very good job at Alpine in the World Endurance Championship. It would be nice if he had a second chance behind the wheel of the Cadillac." he added.

Among the candidates seriously considered so far, Sergio Perez, Guanyu-Zhou, and Colton Herta seem to be on the American manufacturer's tight list. Although Mick Schumacher is seeing support as valuable as Sebastian Vettel come forward, Le Mans remains the driver's next major event. Formula 1, for its part, remains very uncertain, thanks to the Cadillac team alone.

Schumi Jr at Cadillac when GM/Cadillac favors experience and victory (so rather TexMex or the mustachioed mullet), accompanied by a Chinese with a well-lined wallet or a driver stamped US, hard to believe it especially since his time in F1 left a nice carbon slate as the only notable performance!
