With his second place at the Singapore GP, Max Verstappen continues to nibble away at the drivers' lead McLaren in the Drivers' Championship. While the Woking team has just won the Constructors' title, the second crown is not yet over.
While the Dutchman had a very good race, battling an uncooperative RB21, he was visibly frustrated with his start. Max Verstappen started on soft tires from the front row alongside polesitter George Russell on the Marina Bay circuit, where the freshly dried track remained slippery. In these conditions, the Dutchman was less responsive than the Briton. Mercedes. " The track dried out. Starting on the dirty side of the track, I tried something different. As soon as I passed the first corners, it was unfortunately over, deplores Max Verstappen. We tried something, it didn't work. »

“The whole race was difficult, more than I thought it would be.”
Stopping in the pits on lap 20 to change from soft to hard tyres, the Hasselt (Belgium) native struggled to maintain the pace. The first relay was mainly a question of management, survival, complains Max Verstappen. We switched to the hard tires after that, but the whole race was difficult, more so than I thought. There are different reasons for that, some of which we still have to try to understand. Here, even if you have more pace, you can't overtake unless something crazy happens. »
Having won on every track on the calendar, the defending champion was hoping to finally win on the only circuit that still eludes him. But despite his best efforts, the Dutchman had to settle for second place. Second, that was really the maximum today " he admitted. He still needs to make up 10 points per race from Piastri without a single hiccup, otherwise the gap will be irreparable. It seems difficult. But instead of pulling off the spectacular move that would put him out of reach, Piastri, by playing the grocer, leaves Verstappen in a strong position against him and a Norris who doesn't dare attack him, knowing that the Dutchman will put him out. A ridiculous situation in which Verstappen is playing Piastri's game but is making them both look a bit ridiculous. Truly an end to the season we wouldn't have imagined.

A fourth race weekend... without a victory and the Dutchman is upset! He takes points from the Piastri / Norris duo and prevents Piastri from losing a few more points to his teammate by holding his own until the checkered flag!
