Antonio Pérez Garibay was hospitalized on Sunday evening, just after the finish of the Azerbaijan Grand Prix. Sergio Pérez's father, aged 65, was found unconscious in his bathroom in Mexico shortly after his son's accident on the penultimate lap in Baku. He was rushed to hospital, where doctors said he was suffering a "pre-infarction", reports local media Mediotempo.
The politician reportedly told hospital that he fainted shortly after his son's collision with Carlos Sainz in the penultimate. "It all happened after the accident. The shock of the accident could have caused the fainting. They are already examining the heart to see why I fainted.", he reportedly told the doctor, according to Mediotempo, which reports that Sergio Perez's father was already feeling better. If a hospital discharge was planned for September 17, Antonio Perez Garibay's communications team indicated on Facebook that he would remain under observation for a few more days to see how his health progressed.
"Mr. Pérez Garibay is in stable condition but remains under medical supervision in intensive care, mainly focused on his heart and other vital organs. The specialists in his care have indicated that his condition continues to be monitored very closely, can we read in the press release. On behalf of Antonio Pérez Garibay and his entire team, we would like to thank the Mexican Red Cross for its rapid intervention that was fundamental in saving his life. We also thank the doctors and health personnel who are caring for him in a hospital in Mexico City. According to medical reports, Mr. Pérez Garibay will remain hospitalized for a few days to continue his convalescence.
