Sergio Pérez is reportedly "very disappointed to finish last" with Cadillac

A newcomer but far from timid, Cadillac has high expectations, much like its drivers. Accustomed to being at the front of the pack, Sergio Pérez will not be content with a secondary role.

During a commercial aired Sunday during the Super Bowl between the New England Patriots and the Seattle Seahawks in Santa Clara, California, Cadillac unveiled its asymmetrical livery with great fanfare. It was a fitting tribute to the team's ambitions, because they have big plans.

The team managed by Graeme Lowdon intends to leverage its experience to optimize its debut in the top tier. The transatlantic outfit has therefore chosen two seasoned drivers who, between them, have 527 Grand Prix starts, 16 wins, and 106 podium finishes: Sergio Pérez and Valtteri Bottas will thus be responsible for driving the first Cadillac single-seaters in Formula 1.

However, the young team shouldn't be expected to be at the front of the pack in its inaugural F1 season. While Cadillac's arrival comes in a relatively favorable context, marked by a change in regulations, the newcomer will have to contend with seasoned competition.

A motivated team

Sergio Pérez, returning to F1 after a sabbatical year following his dismissal from Red BullNevertheless, it displays great ambitions. We absolutely do not have that mentality [of being last], he assures Reuters before the unveiling of Cadillac's first livery. Not with the level of investment that has been put in place. He insists: We would be very disappointed to finish last. We know we certainly won't win the championship, but we really want to improve and beat some teams. This is a team that has recruited people from virtually every team I've played for. »

Confident, the Mexican believes his new team " has the ability to go very far in this sport ". He adds : " I think it will become a very important team in the future of Formula 1. “For his part, Valtteri Bottas displays a more measured confidence.” I'm ready for a tough start. And I don't mind if we don't get off to a spectacular start. Of course, that's what I'd like, but if not, so be it. It's not really where we start that matters, but where we end up together. And that's what motivates us. »

After completing its first laps in mid-January at Silverstone, the team continued its groundwork at the F1 Shakedown held in Barcelona from January 29th to February 3rd. The result: 164 laps completed. This initial step was considered encouraging and is expected to serve as a solid foundation for future development.
