An accident before the race weekend had even started. While the drivers were attending to their commercial, media and other obligations, the F1 as usual, carried out its track checks. Among them, the recognition of the latter by the medical car and the Safety Car.

A normally calm exercise but which this time took a strange turn. Indeed, the safety car was the protagonist of an accident while negotiating the famous Parabolica, today renamed Curva Alboreto, in homage to Michele Alboreto.

During one of his fast laps, in this case his last, Bernd Mayländer lost control of theAston Martin Vantage finishing his race against the protection barriers after crossing the gravel trap. While the German and his passenger were able to get out on their own, the vehicle suffered some damage as shown in the first images from Monza.

« An incident occurred on the track with the FIA Safety Car today (Thursday) in Monza, the FIA reported in a statement. Aston Martin is investigating the cause of the incident, but we can confirm that the driver and passenger are okay. »

Note that the accident will have no impact on the weekend's progress since a second safety car is available on the circuit, just in case. Better safe than sorry, and luckily more fear than harm, even if Aston Martin must not think the same thing...

Indeed, but any other era with safety standards that have nothing comparable. After Jim CLARK in 1968, Jochen RINDT the only posthumous world champion in 1970 and before François CEVERT in 1973, 3 deaths that marked the very young F1 enthusiast that I was!

Prelude to track exits during the weekend, exits linked to the new surface of the temple of speed? Well, the evil tongues will say that this would not have happened with the Mercedes safety car,🤣!
