Yuki tsunoda is trying to find his rhythm in the RB21. The former Racing Bulls driver had started to turn the corner at Spa in July. The Japanese driver qualified seventh – his best qualifying with Red Bull – without, however, translating this result into points. At Zandvoort, Tsunoda ended the slump he had been going through since Imola. The Red Bull driver scored two points during the Dutch Grand Prix, capitalizing on the retirements of several of his rivals.

After a change of driver and team principal, the Austrian team is prioritizing stability to finish the season. Laurent Mekies – who took over as Red Bull boss in July, replacing long-time boss Christian Horner – supports Tsunoda. The Frenchman insisted: there will be no no change between Tsunoda and Isack Hadjar before 2026.

« I think the short answer is yes. " said Mekies, assuring that Tsunoda would remain at the wheel for the rest of the season. No, we don't intend to change during the season. Yuki has made good progress in the last three races, we want more, but he's doing a good job. He scored his first points after seven races, had his best qualifying with the team at Spa, he's on a positive trend. " greeted the Team Principal.

Red Bull opts for stability until the end of 2025

Racing Bulls rookie Isack Hadjar, meanwhile, is coming off a glorious Dutch Grand Prix finish on the podium. A performance that certainly appeals to the parent team. However, nothing will be done before the end of the 2025 season. This is probably to the relief of the Parisian, who felt he wasn't ready to join Red Bull in June.

« It's extremely pleasing to see Isack's progress and to see him perform at the level he did in the last race. It was a fantastic demonstration of the progress he has made over the season, Mekies praised. But we are relaxed about the drivers, we hold all the cards at Red Bull »

Far from being short of options to fill the second seat in 2026, the Milton Keynes leaders are in no rush to announce their decision. A situation that could worry the Japanese, threatened by a possible promotion of the hope of F2 Arvid Lindblad within Racing Bulls.

Mekies continues to support Tsunoda as he rightes the ship

The Red Bull Team Principal has affirmed his support for the Japanese driver, with whom he established a special relationship during their time together at Racing Bulls. This support has proven beneficial for Tsunoda, who has gradually found his rhythm since Spa: a seventh place in qualifying in Belgium, a pace close to that of his teammate in Hungary and two points scored in the Netherlands.

Mekies reaffirmed his confidence again: “ We don't think speed can disappear. » The Frenchman also recalled the speed of his driver within his former team: " Yuki finished last year very well and started the season very well [with Racing Bulls]. »

« Of course, he had some difficult times at the beginning of the season with this team, recognized Mekies. But we take things race by race. He made a step forward in Spa. In Budapest, which was our worst weekend, he was still very close to Max in terms of pace. He was a tenth and a half behind Max in qualifying.. Normally, if you're a tenth and a half behind Max, that guarantees you a front row spot. But in Budapest, that meant being eliminated in Q1. He's improving step by step. " Mekies rejoiced. " We clearly see a new approach in Yuki. We are trying to help him progress. " said the French leader. However, Mekies' support does not guarantee a seat for 2026 on a nearly finalized grid. With 12 points and a nineteenth place in the 2025 championship to his name, nothing is certain for the Japanese.
