Six Grands Prix. This is the number of rounds remaining before the end of the season. Formula 1. However, McLaren has already clinched the title. In the humid Singapore air, the Papayas lifted the Constructors' Trophy, a sign of an exceptional season... almost historic.

McLaren makes history

In terms of precocity, McLaren thus equals the performance of Red Bull in 2023, also winning with six rounds remaining. This success also recalls the golden age of the British team, then led by the legendary Ayrton Senna and Alain ProstDuring its series of titles in 1988 and 1989, McLaren won the crown with 5 and 4 rounds remaining in the season respectively.

Records within reach

In terms of victories, however, McLaren does not yet hold the record. Red Bull remains the leader with 21 wins out of 22 races in 2023, ahead of Mercedes, with 19 victories for the Silver Arrows in 2016. Currently, McLaren occupies the 12th place in the history of the number of victories in a season (12). With six races still to go, the record remains well within reach for the papayas. Also of note: in 1988, Woking only let one victory slip through their fingers in the entire season (15 out of 16).

It's also worth noting that with 28 podiums in 2025, McLaren sits only seventh, behind Mercedes in 2019, 2015 and 2016 with 31, 32 and 33 podiums respectively. However, there are still 12 podiums to be won before the end of the season, giving the team led by Zak Brown the opportunity to equal – or even surpass – the Brackley team's record.

At this point, McLaren has accumulated 650 points, 325 more than its current runner-up, Mercedes. With 303 points still to be won, the champions can not only break the record for the gap to the runner-up, held by Red Bull in 2023 (451 points over Mercedes), but also aim for the total number of points scored in a season, also topped by the Austrian team in the same year (860 points).

Nevertheless, with double dominance in the Drivers' standings, McLaren looks well placed to challenge the records set by Red Bull in 2023. At the time, Max Verstappen had won his third title ahead of his teammate Sergio Pérez, who was 290 points behind. Today, the Woking team is in a favorable position to maximize points and make history. These figures should be qualified, however: with 24 Grands Prix and a scale offering 25 points per victory introduced only in 2011, the British dominance figures cannot quite be compared to previous eras.
