That's it, Mercedes took off ! For the first time since the introduction of the new technical regulations in 2022, the German team finally seems to know where it is going in the development of its car. Above all, this is the first time in three years that the Silver Arrows have given the feeling of being able to win on a regular basis!

She gave proof this weekend at Silverstone, with a 100% Mercedes front row in qualifying and the victory of Lewis Hamilton at the end of a thrilling race. “Unlike Spielberg where we took advantage of a clash (between Verstappen et Norris on your mind. Editor’s note), we have won a victory here on merit. In almost all conditions we were in the lead”, did not fail to emphasize Toto wolff after the British Grand Prix.

If he recalls that just a few weeks ago, Mercedes was “nowhere”, the Team Principal of the German team explained how his team managed to get back on track to play for victory. “We weren't even in contention for the podium, and then it clicked. Suddenly, everything that didn't make sense made sense. This is the result of the development direction, we find the performance and we put it on the car. This results in improved lap times, which was not the case the last two years. »

“There was a moment when, under the leadership of James [Allison, technical director of Mercedes], the data took on its full meaning, confided the Austrian leader. It's mainly how we balance the car and how we can bring it into a better comfort zone that has been decisive. It's not the front wing that was miraculous, it's more the balance that we managed to achieve. »

Mercedes plans developments before the break

Building on its two consecutive victories in Austria and Great Britain, but above all by the pace displayed by the W15 during the last weekends, Mercedes will accelerate the development of its car before the summer break. Toto Wolff assured that new developments will be introduced in Budapest (July 21) and Spa-Francorchamps (July 28) in order to consolidate their position at the top of the Top Teams.

To the great pleasure of Lewis Hamilton who, far from the pessimistic speeches that he had accustomed us to give, is delighted with the behavior and development of his horse. “The car is starting to come alive and feel good (…) but it is by no means the fastest on the grid, he put things into perspective despite his victory at Silverstone. I think we are very close and I hope that with the next development we will be in an even stronger position to fight more regularly on the front line. »

Latest developments on the W15 which will also be used for next year's W16! Enough to give Sir Gold Lives Matter regrets when he sees the current level of his future red mount?
