Will there be a new "controversy" and new complaints from competitors to the FIA about McLaren ? There is no question of calling into question the performance of the Oranges and the victory ofOscar piastri last weekend in Azerbaijan. However, one element in particular from the Woking team made headlines on the streets of Baku.
After the front wing, whose flexibility, especially in a straight line, was much talked about during the summer tour in Europe, it is the one located at the rear of the MCL38 that could soon find itself in the spotlight. The cause? Also "too much" flexibility.
According to the first images found on the internet, the upper flap of the rear wing seems to move more than usual. In the pictures, we can see that the lower part of the latter lifts slightly in a straight line creating a sort of "mini-DRS" effect, reducing drag to increase the top speed, or at least contribute to it being higher. This could thus translate into a slight advantage on a track like that of Baku where the full load lasts more than two kilometers. All before everything returns to normal under braking with a rear wing that lowers again to find a "classic" position.

A subject that recalls the case of Red Bull in 2021 who had to adjust his rear wing, deemed too flexible by the FIA after complaints from some competitors. Will she open a new file this time after seeing these images? Will there be protests from the competitors? Will they play with the same limit? In any case, this opens the door to many possibilities for both sides. To be continued...

The famous grey areas of the Regulations... engineers will always know how to exploit them! Like asymmetric braking before summer 2024

I believe that this non-compliant rear wing should cancel PIASTRI's first place
