While applications to join the Formula 1 as the eleventh stable in the years to come are now closed, Toto wolff assured at Silverstone (Great Britain) that to enter the premier category, there was no other choice than to buy a team already present on the grid.

This is not the first time that the director of Mercedes is reluctant about the arrival of an 11th competitor since Andretti Autosport expressed its desire to join the Formula 1 grid, and Wolff has already found a bunch of different pretexts to justify this opposition.

At first, the Austrian was simply not enthusiastic about sharing the financial pie with an eleventh structure. More recently, the director of the Silver Arrows also believed that certain circuits on the calendar do not have the necessary infrastructure to accommodate a new arrival. Apologies which annoy Michael Andretti, director of the American team, who has already rung every door to offer the teams their takeover, without success.

« We contacted all the teams, but no one is interested, he declared to the media during the Sardinia X-Prix (Extreme E). They keep saying 'buy a stable', but no one wants to sell! They're not even interested in the discussion. Everyone has their own reasons, they are above all trying to protect their own interests, which I cannot blame them for. If I were in their situation, I would probably do the same thing.

Ultimately, they are not the ones who will make the decision. It will be up to F1 and the FIA to decide whether they think our arrival is a good thing. For our part, IHe thinks we have everything we need to be competitive, respectful and add something to the series. I am calm, but the feelings and reality are always very different. »

Cadillac, heavily involved in the project

Many saw the association between Andretti and Cadillac as a communication strategy, thinking that the arrival of the American manufacturer would bring nothing more than a new name in the sport, but Mario's son assures the opposite.

“General Motors is very involved in this project. People try to say 'they're just putting their name on it', but that's not the case. They are an integral part of the team. When this that we submitted will be made public, you will see the size of their involvement. », promises Andretti while the verdict will fall on July 15 for the various registrants.

Colton Herta tops the list

Asked about the names who could take their place in the seats of his team if he were to enter Formula 1, his decision seems already made. The youngest winner ofIndyCar, Colton Herta, tops the list.

« Colton is part of the project. If we enter F1, it is on him that we want to bet, assures the son of the world champion. He's still excited to join us, and I'd love to have him involved in this category.

He tested the McLaren and did very well (As part of McLaren's Previous Car Testing program, Ed..). This benchmark is very important, because we wonder how it will adapt, it must be up to the task. I would like him to be the first competitive American in F1 in a long time. » Logan sargeant will appreciate…
