After failing to qualify for Q2 the day before, Esteban Ocon started in seventeenth position. The driver Haas finished the Singapore GP in 18th place, extending his run without a point since Zandvoort, where he had scored just one from an unflattering grid position. This performance is a credit to both drivers, especially as his rookie teammate Oliver Bearman finished the race ninth – earning the Banbury team two points.
Ocon distraught in his Haas
« I didn't actually try anything, he confessed to Canal+. We gained a position on the first stop. When we stopped, I found myself behind the train of all the cars in front which were sucked in by the DRS, so we lost all the places without ever being able to come back, deplores the Tricolor. On the first relay it was good. I had passed Yuki tsunoda, I was catching up Lance stroll... We were doing our own little race, trying to get back on track. It was after the first stop that everything changed and I found myself stuck behind everyone."
Esteban Ocon is not satisfied with this difficult weekend, however, especially since his Haas clearly had more pace to offer, according to him. "Disappointed with this weekend. We definitely had a lot more speed than we showed. We'll have to get everything in order." »
Despite this disappointment, Ocon is now focused on the next rounds. It's a bit difficult to understand this race, and what the motivations were behind this choice, but it doesn't matter. We turn the page and focus on the next one."
