A week after the controversy of the United States Grand Prix, McLaren got his revenge in Mexico on Sunday. If the stewards showed a certain laxity towards Max Verstappen In Austin, according to the British team, they were much more intransigent regarding the Dutchman's maneuvers against Lando Norris on the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez.
Twice, on the 10th lap, the driver Red Bull pushed the McLaren driver outside the track limits, with more than questionable braking. A defense that was far too muscular according to the race direction, which decided to award 10 seconds of penalty for each of the two maneuvers of the Batavian.
Brown tackles Verstappen: "It's getting a little ridiculous"
Two heavy penalties that relegated Max Verstappen to the back of the pack after his pit stop, before the triple world champion and championship leader came back to 6th place at the finish. At McLaren, a week after the frustration of the podium lost to Lando Norris, there is rejoicing at the stricter reaction of the stewards concerning the Dutchman. Zak Brown notably praised the work of race control during the Mexican Grand Prix… even if he believes that the penalties imposed on Max Verstappen were still "not enough" according to him.
"It's getting a bit ridiculous. I applaud the stewards. Enough is enough! Let's make sure the races take place in good conditions, McLaren Racing CEO calls for from Sky Sports F1. I think the stewards are on it. The penalties they've given out clearly show that. So I don't think we need to do anything. Just let the stewards do their job. They did a good job this weekend."
Thanks to the penalties received by Max Verstappen, Lando Norris did not have to worry about his rival for the rest of the race in Mexico and, by finishing second, was able to take back 10 points from the championship leader. “I knew what to expect, declared the Briton after the arrival. I didn't want to see this kind of thing, because I respect Max a lot, but I expected this. It was not a clean ride. I avoided it and it's finally a good race for me."

Heavy sanction but I think that the recurrence a week after Austin weighed (quite rightly) in the stewards' decision. The problem is now not only a question of track limits but also of deliberately dangerous driving. Norris narrowly avoided hitting the barriers head-on during the second "scuffle" and the consequences could have been dramatic. So Brown is not wrong in calling for harsher sanctions. In the past, others have been disqualified or suspended for a race after such dangerous and irresponsible behavior.

Zak Brown who believes that the 20 second penalties imposed on Max Verstappen were still "not enough", what more did he want? This seems coherent and in any case more coherent than the decisions taken in Austin a week earlier. Well, he must not travel on the same plane as Horner to reach Sao Paulo!!
