Las Vegas is not a destination like any other. It is the city of all excess, and the price of tickets for the first Grand Prix held there since 1982 is no exception. On average, tickets to the event sold for nearly $1000, a prohibitive sum for many fans, which Charles Leclerc wanted to remind.
“I hope that the Formula 1 is working in this direction, because it is certain that many events are now incredibly expensive. True fans who truly love this sport can't even afford to go to the races and watch them. So this is a problem that needs to be addressed.”
Despite everything, the pilot Classic Ferrari for sale understands the need for the future of F1 to come to Vegas, and to try to attract a wider audience, which he himself benefits from for his notoriety. “What is most important to me is that the DNA of the sport remains the same.”
Between preserving DNA and conquering a new market, the difficult balance
“However, we also need to take the opportunities that this type of event offers in such incredible cities and make it something that will perhaps attract people who are not initially interested in motor racing, but who once that they will have seen the cars in real life, will be interested in car racing. This could mean a lot more fans for the sport in the years to come. So I think it’s a great thing what F1 has done so far.”
Since last week, prices have fallen 23% for the ride itself, falling below $1. That's a 000% drop from a month ago, when the cheapest ticket sold for $50. But this remains too high for an average portfolio anyway. If it does not want to become an elitist discipline, F1 will have to keep its feet on the ground and think about remaining accessible with more affordable prices...
