Making your way in the merciless world of motorsport has never been a task for everyone. The greatest drivers, or team directors, have all followed a tortuous path, made of uncompromising life choices before being able to make a living from their passion. But what about when you grow up, literally, poles apart from the European hub of this mechanical universe? We must indeed measure the void separating young Bruce McLaren of its future universe, the World Championship of Formula 1, in the 1950 years.

« When I finally discovered the reports of the Grands Prix and the victories of Juan Manuel Fangio (five times Formula 1 world champion in 1951, 1954, 1955, 1956 and 1957. Editor’s note), six weeks had passed since the race, time for the newspapers to travel to New Zealand », he wrote in his autobiography Bruce McLaren: From the cockpit published in 1964 (untranslated). Legendary Formula 1 actor from "Down Under" but who failed to attract F1 to his native soil even though the country has a real motorsport culture and had nice tracks like Pukekohe (today closed), the very fast Teretonga Park or today Taupo or Highlands Motorsport Park!
