Daniil Kvyat was the victim of an impressive off-track accident in the final qualifying session for the Japanese GP at Suzuka. The pilot Red Bull lost control of his RB11 at the entrance to the Hairpin and was violently thrown into the safety rail. The Russian's state of health is reassuring, but his car suffered heavy damage which could result in a penalty.
The Red Bull driver admitted to being at fault after exceeding the track limits. “I’m fine, it’s mostly psychologically painful.”, admitted the Russian. « It was a rookie mistake. I put two wheels in the grass and that's it. There was no escape route there and it had to end this way. I feel sorry for the team who have already had a difficult two weeks and find themselves with extra work. »
Daniil Kvyat will have to start from the pits following repairs carried out on his RB11 while his teammate Daniel Ricciardo will start in seventh position.
