After two months of fighting for his life, Wilson Fittipaldi Júnior died. The Brazilian, brother of the double world champion Formula 1 1972 and 1974, Emerson Fittipaldi, died this Friday February 23 at the age of 80.
Wilson Fittipaldi Júnior, also father of former F1 driver in the 1990s Christian Fittipaldi, suffered a cardiac arrest on December 25, 2023, when he was celebrating his 80th birthday.
The Sao Paulo native competed in 38 Formula 35 Grands Prix (1 starts) in the years between 1972 and 1975. With his brother Emerson, he created the first and only Brazilian Formula 1 team in 1974, known as name of Fittipaldi-Copersucar, which existed from 1975 to 1982. He achieved his best result during the 1974 German Grand Prix contested on the formidable Nordschleife of the Nürburgring (5th).
