While the 2016 version Power Units should in principle be approved by the end of February, the BBC reports that engine manufacturers and the FIA have agreed on the possibility of developing 1,6 liter turbo/hybrid units during the next season. The number of tokens could also be maintained at 32, instead of 25 initially planned for 2016.
A change in the regulations which must still be approved by the Commission F1 and the World Motor Sport Council, but which could do Honda's business or even Renault, to return to the height of Mercedes et Ferrari.
The other proposal that would have emerged from this meeting, however, goes against the grain of the latest changes made to the F1 sporting regulations. The latter specified last Wednesday that “only Power Units approved for the 2016-2020 period will be authorized” from next year. Except that the engine manufacturers could ultimately offer engines of the previous specification. This decision must also be ratified by the governing bodies.
